Guavaberry Drink and Jam

Guavaberry Drink and Jam

About the Recipe

Guava berry jam is a delightful sweet and spiced treat that is crafted by carefully cooking guava berries with sugar and a selection of warm spices such as cinnamon, clove, and allspice. This combination of ingredients results in a jam that is absolutely scrumptious when spread on toast or used as a filling for pastries, adding a burst of tropical flavor to any dish. Additionally, for a classic Caribbean guava berry drink, the berries are first cooked into a jam-like base. This base is then infused with rum and allowed to sit for several weeks. This process creates a unique and delicious liqueur that captures the essence of the Caribbean, offering a rich and aromatic experience for those who enjoy a taste of the tropics.

Ingredients

2 cups guava berries

3 sticks cinnamon

12 cloves

6 allspice berries

1 cup sugar

2 quart water

12.7 ounces dark Dominican rum

Preparation

Place the guava berries, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, sugar, and water into a pot.

Heat and simmer over low heat until the water has reduced, the berries are very soft and has turned into a jam with some liquid left.

Remove the pot from the heat, and let it cool to room temperature.

If you are just making the jam, remove the spices, and chill before serving as a dessert, or on bread.

Mix the jam (with all the spices) and the rum, and let it rest in the refrigerator for a week.

Strain and serve chilled.
