With its soft texture and perfect puff, it forms a pocket ideal for savory or sweet fillings. Whether you are making a sandwich or a snack, this versatile pita bread accommodates all your culinary desires.
The simple ingredient list includes gluten-free flour, warm water, yeast, olive oil, and salt. These ingredients form a dough that is easy to prepare and shape after a brief resting period. This resting phase relaxes the dough, making it easier to roll out and ensuring a better texture.
The oven method is crucial for achieving the desired results. Preheat the oven to ensure even cooking and authentic puffing. The high temperature creates steam within the dough, causing it to puff up beautifully and form a perfect pocket.
This homemade pita bread’s versatility is exciting. Being gluten-free does not mean sacrificing flavor. Enhance the taste by adding herbs, spices, or seeds. For example, dried oregano or thyme imparts an aromatic quality, while sesame seeds add a delightful crunch. Tailor the pita bread to suit your preferences or the dish you plan to serve it with.
Once baked to perfection, your pita bread offers numerous serving options. Serve it warm with creamy hummus for a classic pairing. Alternatively, use it to wrap grilled vegetables for a nutritious and flavorful meal. For added protein, wrap grilled chicken, beef, or falafel.
This gluten-free pita bread is a kitchen staple due to its ease of preparation, delightful taste, and texture. It is a go-to option for various meals and snacks. Whether hosting a gathering or enjoying a quiet meal, it elevates your dining experience, providing a delicious and satisfying accompaniment to countless dishes. Ingredients
1 ¼ cups oat flour
½ cup potato starch
⅓ cup cornstarch
⅓ cup tapioca flour
2 tablespoons xanthan gum
1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup warm milk
1 egg
¼ cup olive oil
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Preparation
In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients and whisk them until thoroughly mixed, approximately 1 minute.
Next, whisk the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until they are fully incorporated, also approximately 1 minute.
On a low speed, mix the ingredients until a soft dough forms, which should take approximately 5 minutes.
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Divide the dough into six equal portions and roll each portion on a floured surface to create a 6-inch circle.
Place the rolled-out dough circles onto the prepared baking sheets.
Cover the baking sheets with plastic wrap and allow the dough to rest for 1 to 1.5 hours.
Preheat the oven to 475 degrees Fahrenheit. Before placing the pita breads in the oven, brush them with water.
Bake the pita breads in the preheated oven until they puff up and turn lightly golden brown, which typically takes 5 to 7 minutes. I usually bake them for 3 minutes, then flip them and bake them for another 3 minutes.
