Caprese Hearts – A Romantic Twist on a Classic Salad

About the Recipe

Bring a touch of love to your table with these charming Caprese Hearts! This playful twist on the classic Italian Caprese salad combines juicy cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and aromatic basil, all shaped into heart-inspired bites. Drizzled with olive oil and balsamic glaze, these vibrant, colorful appetizers are perfect for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or any special occasion where you want to impress with both flavor and presentation.

Ingredients

1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes

8 ounces fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini)

Fresh basil leaves

2–3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1–2 tablespoons balsamic glaze

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Heart-shaped mini cookie cutter (optional)

Preparation

Slice cherry tomatoes in half.

If using a mini cookie cutter, gently press it onto the mozzarella balls to create heart shapes. Otherwise, slice them into small rounds.

Arrange the tomato halves and mozzarella hearts alternately on a platter.

Tuck fresh basil leaves between the pieces for a pop of green.

Drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic glaze.

Sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

Garnish with rose petals.

Serve immediately as a festive appetizer or side dish.

Notes

Prep tomatoes and mozzarella a few hours in advance; add basil and dressing just before serving.

Sprinkle with toasted pine nuts or add a few drops of pesto for extra flavor.

Use a white platter to make the red, green, and white colors pop beautifully.
